Reviving the Shine: Infinite Automotive’s Transformation of a 2018 Tesla Model X

At Infinite Automotive, we pride ourselves on delivering exceptional automotive detailing and restoration services. Recently, we had the pleasure of working on a 2018 Tesla Model X that needed a serious makeover in terms of its paintwork. In this blog post, we’ll take you through the transformation process that included paint correction, the application of ceramic coatings, and the addition of paint protection film (PPF) to the bonnet to safeguard against future damage.

The Challenge: A Dull and Worn Finish

When this Tesla Model X arrived at our facility, it bore the signs of wear commonly seen on vehicles exposed to the elements. Swirl marks, light scratches, bird dropping burns and a dull finish plagued the vehicle’s once-pristine exterior. Our goal was to restore the paint to its original glossy finish and protect it from future damage.

Step 1: Paint Correction

The first step in our restoration process was paint correction. This meticulous procedure involved several stages:

  1. Thorough Washing and Decontamination: We started by washing the vehicle to remove any dirt and grime. A clay bar was then used to eliminate any embedded contaminants that a standard wash couldn’t cleanse. This step ensured a smooth surface for the correction process.

  2. Assessment of the Paintwork: We carefully examined the paint under different lighting to identify areas requiring attention. This inspection helped us determine the correct pad and polish combination for optimal results.

  3. Polishing: Using advanced polishing techniques, we carefully removed imperfections from the surface. This process not only eliminated scratches but also enhanced the depth and clarity of the paint. By the end of this step, we were already seeing significant improvements!

Step 2: Ceramic Coating Application

With the paint correction completed, it was time to enhance the Model X’s exterior protection. We applied a high-quality 3Yr ceramic coating, which provides long-lasting protection against UV rays, environmental contaminants, and minor scratches. The benefits of ceramic coatings include:

  • Enhanced Gloss: The coating adds a glass-like finish, enhancing the color and depth of the paint.

  • Hydrophobic Properties: This results in improved water beading, making it easier for the owner to keep the vehicle clean.

  • Durability: Unlike traditional wax, ceramic coatings can last for several years, providing ongoing protection.

Step 3: Protecting the Bonnet with PPF

To further safeguard the vehicle, the customer opted to have paint protection film (PPF) installed to the bonnet. This was a crucial step, especially considering the Model X's position as both a family vehicle and a luxury SUV, which often encounters stone chips and other road debris.

Why PPF?

  • Impact Resistance: PPF acts as a barrier, absorbing the impact from stones and debris that can cause chips and scratches.

  • Self-Healing Properties: Many PPFs have self-healing capabilities, allowing minor scratches to disappear with heat.

  • Clear and Seamless Finish: PPF is designed to maintain the vehicle’s aesthetics while providing robust protection.

The Result: A Stunning Transformation

The completion of this project left the 2018 Tesla Model X looking better than ever. The combination of paint correction, ceramic coatings, and PPF not only revitalized the vehicle’s aesthetic but also provided protection to ensure it remains in pristine condition for years to come.

At Infinite Automotive, we love taking on projects that challenge us and allow us to showcase our expertise. Transforming the Model X was not just about restoration; it was about preserving the beauty and functionality of the vehicle for its owner.
